Pinwherry and Pinmore Community Development Trust | Community Press Release | 04/03/2025
Pinwherry and Pinmore Community Development Trust (PPCDT) is delighted to announce that funding has been secured over three years for core costs of the charity and running costs of The Auld School Community Centre.
Administered by Foundation Scotland, the Pinwherry and Pinmore Community Fund has pledged £22,000 each year (rising annually with inflation), of which over £16,000 will cover the annual Auld School utility bills, insurance, grounds maintenance, WiFi costs, heating system checks, PAT testing, scaffold hire for guttering cleaning and general sundries. The remaining annual sum will fund accountancy fees and OSCR accounts preparation, office costs, Pinwherry Field maintenance, community newsletter printing and other fees and membership costs that are crucial for the successful charitable operations of the Trust.
What does this mean for the community?
PPCDT is now in a position to substantially reduce the hire costs of The Auld School Community Centre, given that the running costs of the building are not solely required to be covered by income generated from community centre lets. The revised costings, effective immediately and applying to either the main hall or the lounge area, are:
- £5 per hour – local not-for-profit groups benefiting Pinwherry and Pinmore residents
- £10 per hour – not-for-profit groups located outside the local area
- £15 per hour – commercial lets or parties
- Free of Charge – ‘Workday Wednesdays’ – Free WiFi and hotdesk space for local residents
- £15 – kitchen one off fee when linked with room hire
As a charitable trust and not-for-profit organisation, any profit that may be generated from the hire of the community centre, or any other activities carried out by PPCDT, is directly reinvested back into the community.
Venue Hire Funding Application Support for Local Groups
“We are thrilled to be in a position to substantially reduce the hire charges for community members”, said Marie McNulty, Chair of PPCDT. “What’s more, if local groups are still finding the reduced costs a barrier to using the Centre, our Project Officer, Amy-Dee Watson, can support groups to complete the £500 Pinwherry and Pinmore Community Council Small Grants application form to request funding for venue hire.”
The three year window of funding allows the Trust to carry out a feasibility study on the former nursery building to ascertain the most appropriate use of the space with the maximum financial benefit to the community. PPCDT’s intention is to generate income from the former nursery which will be used to off-set the running costs of The Auld School Community Centre, to become financially sustainable in the longer term.
