Pinwherry and Pinmore Community Development Trust has been successful in securing funding from the Ayrshire Rural and Islands Ambition (ARIA) Small Capital Grants Fund, for funding to create a cozy space in our newly refurbished community-owned building, Old Pinwherry School. We have used this funding to purchase furniture and equipment, including sofas, tables, chairs, storage cupboards, fridge, microwave, crockery and cutlery, to provide a warm, welcoming space for the people of Pinwherry and Pinmore, which has become a key need for our community, due to the cost of living crisis. There are no other facilities in our village, so this funding has been crucial in ensuring we can combat social isolation and mental health and wellbeing issues for some of our community members, by providing a warm and welcoming space for people to ‘drop by’. It has strengthened our organisation in terms of developing our community-owned asset and ensuring it is fit for purpose for our residents.

We have also created a “quiet room” area for people to work from, reducing the need to use energy in their homes and also providing social and networking opportunities with others in the community. In this way we are able to contribute to the growth of our local economy; a key priority of the Community Wealth Building initiative.

We are starting our Cozy Space provision on Thursday 9th March 12noon – 2pm – more dates to follow soon! If you’re interested in volunteering to help run our cozy space (opening/closing the building, serving refreshments, chatting with community members etc) please get in touch: ppcdtprojectofficer@gmail.com
